OGICHIDAA /OGICHIDAAKWE

What does it mean and where does it come from?
Ogichidaa is an Anishinaabemowin word that translates to a warrior, a veteran, or a ceremonial leader. It describes someone who volunteers to help, serve, protect, and place the well-being of others before their own. While historically associated with military service, protectors, and ceremonial headmen, it extends to community advocates, language keepers, and healthcare providers. The term applies to men (Ogichidaa) and women (Ogichidaakwe) equally.
